In an email dated January 9, 2013 Don Allaway reported as follows on the passing of Don Robertson:
Don worked for the McCarthy Group for most of his working life but sadly, as far as I am aware, he died of a heart attack or cancer or some other ailment at least 13 years ago as I was still living in Durban when I heard that he had died.
Don was always a cheerful, positive person and did the best he could with his life.

According to public records, Donald Struan Robertson married Felicity Dicker in 1997 and died in Durban on 9 August 2006. The cause of death is listed as "natural causes", which in SA can include practically any disease.

Don was a very pleasant and likeable pupil, and of course gained some renown at school as the drummer for the all-DHS rock group the Strangers. Although Don was not in my year, I got to know him because we shared the same last name, which frequently caused him to be mistaken for my younger brother. I'm glad to say he seemed amused rather than offended at this connection!
Don's parents must have been very proud of their Scottish heritage. His first name, Donald, is derived from the gaelic Domhnall, meaning "world mighty". His middle name, Struan, is a place name in the highlands, and is as resoundingly Scottish as a Robertson name can get. The Robertsons of Struan are one of the oldest clans of Scotland -- some sources say the oldest of all. The clan motto is "Fierce when roused" and the clan's tartan, with soft greens and blues, is one of the prettiest.
